11 Tips to Extend the Life of Your Mattress

There are a few important recommendations we have that will help ensure a long life for your mattress.

1. Purchase a new box spring and bed frame

The box spring and bed frame represent about 20% of the total cost of a mattress set. However, many people feel like they can use their old ones. We highly recommend you purchase a new one, not because we are making more money, but because lack of proper support from the box spring and frame can damage the mattress. Over years and years of use, box springs develop impressions and can then damage your new mattress. Invest in proper support to ensure a long life for your mattress.

2. Keep your mattress clean and healthy

It is very important to use a mattress protector, not only to protect against soiling, but it makes for a healthier sleeping area. Our mattress protectors are anti-microbial protecting against mold, fungus, and other micro organisms that pose potential health risks. Additionally, our mattress protectors reduce dust mite allergens by 99.9% and are waterproof to protect against stains. We highly recommend having a mattress protector on your mattress at all times to keep it clean and healthy to sleep on.

3. Rotating your mattress

Some mattresses are two sided which allow you to flip the mattress over for better wear. Other models that are not two sided will benefit from a seasonal rotation to evenly distribute any wear you are putting the mattress from sleeping on it every night.

4. Let Your Mattress Breathe

Just like any other new product, a new mattress might have a residual odor left over from the manufacturing and packaging process. To help dissipate the “new product” scent, you should remove the packaging and let the mattress air-out before putting on any linens or mattress protection. Weather permitting; you can expedite the process by opening the bedroom windows.

5. Mattress Warranty

There should be a warranty card that arrives with the packaging of your new mattress or on the side of the mattress. Please take the time to read through the warranty. It may have additional mattress care instructions for the specific model. Your mattress warranty is a commitment by the manufacturer that it will retain a certain level of integrity and not wear past standard industry measureables. If you feel your mattress is wearing too much, looks lumpy or looks like it's bowing we can help by facilitating a warranty claim with the manufacturer. We are always here to help, so if you have any concerns please call and discuss them with us.

6. Don't remove sewn tags

The information printed on ‘law-tags’ and other sewn on labels provide important information about your product and serve as a means of identification should you have a warranty claim. Removal of tags is not illegal but it may void your rights to warranty coverage.

7. Don't allow your mattress set to become stained or soiled

A mattress protector is very important for sanitary reasons and also to protect your warranty rights. A mattress or foundation that becomes stained or soiled will void your warranty.

8. Don't use harsh chemicals or dry-cleaning type fluids to clean your mattress

Such chemicals may damage the internal components of the mattress. Vacuuming and spot cleaning with a mild detergent are recommended to help keep the product sanitary.

9. Don't bend or fold your mattress

Excessive bending or folding of the mattress, when moving product from one location to another, will cause unnecessary damage and void your warranty.

10. Don't jump or stand on your mattress

Although using your mattress as a trampoline is fun, abuse of this kind will surely damage the internal components and void your warranty.

11. Don't use handles to lift mattress

The sewn on handles are intended to help rotate and position the mattress while lying flat on a box-spring or foundation. Handles sewn to a mattress are not designed to support the full weight of the mattress and generally are not covered under the warranty.
